Offering of Light for Chinese New Year 2026

When the New Year approaches, the branches of Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society come together through a time-honoured tradition known as the Offering of Light. This practice offers a simple yet profound way to cultivate clarity of mind and inner calm, setting the intention for a wholesome and meaningful year ahead.

In Buddhist teaching, the offering of light symbolises mental clarity and the dispelling of ignorance. It reflects the aspiration for happiness and well-being for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Observed at the beginning of the year and recognised across cultures as Chinese New Year, Tết Nguyên Đán, and Seollal, this tradition holds deep significance. It invites reflection on renewal, gratitude, and our shared responsibility to foster a more compassionate world.

Each Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society branch observes the Offering of Light in ways suited to its local context. While the form may vary, the intention remains the same: to consecrate the light with mindfulness and to dedicate its merit for the benefit of all.

As of January 2026, we currently have six active branches of Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society in the Klang Valley Region, consisting of:

We also have initiatives like Ti-Ratana Meals on Wheels and the Ti-Ratana Youth Buddhist Section (TRYBS) as well as Ti-Ratana Bersama Rakyat organised in collaboration with our separately registered sister organisation, Ti-Ratana Welfare Society.

Individual branches manage their own dates, offerings, and venue arrangements, and devotees are encouraged to refer to announcements from their respective branches for details. House blessings, a familiar part of New Year observances, are coordinated centrally by Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society and are offered freely as a form of community service.

Bookings can also be made through the official Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society booking page, and our Ti-Ratana Lumbini Garden @ Puchong branch is piloting a completely digitised booking experience via that portal in preparation for compliance with regulatory requirements to digitalise certain services and procedures, while scheduling and transportation arrangements are handled locally in coordination with the monastics.
